Kartavya Organizes Blood Donation Camp at Magneto

Kartavya, the CSR club of IIM Raipur in association with Indian Red Cross Society Raipur and HDFC Bank organized a blood donation camp at Magneto the Mall, Raipur on 1st December 2015. World AIDS Day is held on the 1st of December every year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with the disease, providing them encouragement to overcome all obstacles in life and to make them realize that they are no different but one amongst us.

As of 2013, AIDS has killed more than 36 million people worldwide (1981-2012), and an estimated 35.3 million people are living with HIV, making it one of the most important global public health issues in recorded history. Despite recent improved access to antiretroviral treatment in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claims an estimated 2 million lives each year, of which about 270,000 are children.

Kartavya and Indian Red Cross Society in association with HDFC Bank successfully organized the blood donation camp with a primary motive of spreading awareness among the people regarding World AIDS Day. With an objective of maximizing participation, such a  place which can attract a great number of people, was chosen. Students of IIM Raipur had been publicizing the event and its importance among the people of Raipur for the previous two days. Posters were put up at different places and social media was also involved to promote the event.

The event started at about 3:00 PM in the afternoon because that is the time when people come for leisure to the malls and have plenty of time with them. A lot of students apart from the club members volunteered to help make this event a success which it really turned out to be by the time it ended at 8 PM. By that time blood samples of about 150 persons had been tested and about most of them had donated blood.

The people were initially asked to fill out a questionnaire which had questions related to their medical history and anything that could have an impact on their blood donating ability. Blood samples were also taken and tested to make sure that people who were donating were capable enough and that the blood being taken was healthy enough.
There were six beds to recline the donating persons and during the whole event rarely one could see any bed empty as people kept on pouring in to donating blood responding to the human call of IIM students. Some people even requested after the time was over to donate their blood because of which timing had to be extended.

In the end it turned out to be a very successful event not just because a lot more than expected people had donated blood but because even those who did not donate became more aware about it and about the importance of World AIDS Day. It was a way to make the people affected by such diseases feel as if they are no different than us. The day was devoted to them and them alone.

Pratigya 2015

Pratigya 2015

On the day Mother India celebrated her 69th independence, Kartavya - the CSR club of IIM Raipur organized Pratigya -the annual oath taking ceremony, also its first event in the academic year 2015. When the whole nation was reminiscing about the freedom that India obtained, Kartavya was a step ahead, imparting the spirit to maintain the ethicality and morality among the budding managers and entrepreneurs who shoulder the responsibility to take India to new heights.

The event started as the students gathered ogether to take the oath. With utmost sincerity the students promised to pursue their job in an honest and ethical manner without falling prey to corruption and other unfair business practices. They also vowed to create sustainable economic, social and environmental prosperity.
Students then eagerly lit the diyas around a Rangoli after which they lit the sky lanterns which floated high in the air just like their dreams and ambitions.
To end the event on a high note, students imprinted their palms on a sheet of cloth to acknowledge the oath which eventually ended up making both the sheet and the event very colorful.

In this fast paced and competitive business world, business leaders may tend to shift to practice unfair procedures to stay afloat. Kartavya made its best effort to remind the future managers that the ethics and values always stand tall amongst all other factors of success in their careers.

Blood Donation Camp

Kartavya and Indian Red Cross Society Raipur organizes blood donation camp

“Gift of blood is gift of life”

Kartavya, the CSR club of IIM Raipur in association with Indian Red Cross Society Raipur organized a blood donation camp in Sejbahar, Raipur on 23rd August 2015.

Blood donation is not about just giving blood, it is about saving lives.  Blood donated by one person can save upto three lives. In spite of it being such a noble task, people possess a stereotype perception about blood donation and hence are reluctant to come forward. Only 5 % of the world population donates blood, but a mere 5 % increase in the contribution can eliminate blood shortage problems faced so severely in today’s world.

Kartavya and Indian Red Cross Society successfully organized the blood donation camp in Lok Siksh Kendra,Sejbahar with a primary motive of spreading awareness among the people of Sejbahar. With an objective of maximizing participation, such a  place which can attract a great number of people, was chosen. Students of IIM Raipur had been publicizing the event and its importance among the people of Sejbahar for the previous two days. Posters were put up at different places in Sejbahar area. Students also visited the villages to inform the people about the event.

The event started at 10 AM. Initially the students of IIM Raipur were mainly participating in the blood donation. This however led to curiosity among a lot of local people who came forward with the doubts they had in their minds. They were assured about how safe the process was and also how noble the cause is. Gradually interest augmented and local people started participating. More than 30 people of different age groups came from local households which included women too. Each of the blood donors were thoroughly checked by doctors from Red Cross Society as to whether they were in proper health to donate. Total units collected were over 100. Each of the donors was offered refreshments and certificates as a token of acknowledgement for their participation in this noble event. The event continued till 6PM.

The main objective of organizing the blood donation camp was to spend awareness among the people of Sejbahar. People generally possess many preconceived notions about blood donation. This event was greatly successful in transforming these notions into interest, resulting into participation and hence initiating a change in people’s stigma about blood donation.

Anxiety and excitement were seen not only in the faces of students but also among the parents who came to support and encourage their children. Judges were amazed and perplexed by the creative skills displayed by the students in some of the events like ‘Waste to Wealth’ and ‘Open your Mind’. While events like mathematical ability and quiz tested their aptitude, ‘Dance’ and ‘Play the music’ showcased their extracurricular skills among the audience which energized everyone’s mood. Finally, the grand event came to an end with the prize distribution ceremony. The efforts and hard work of the students were rewarded. Students of St.Xaviers, Holy Hearts Educational Academy, Holy Cross, etc were able to bag prizes in some of the events while Krishna Public school was honored with ‘School of Schools’ award.

Maturity and sense of responsibility was shown in the way the students performed in these events and it was a treat for everyone who had a chance to witness the potential of these talented students. ‘Shine’, which was another successful event by IIM Raipur and Rotary Club of Raipur Cosmopolitan, is a one of its kind event in Raipur which strives to bring the talents of students to light and is expected to continue its service every year.

Nukkad Natak

The crowd was dumbstruck and the whole vicinity around Telibandha Park was breathing energy as the final performance of Nukkad Natak concluded. Kartavya-The CSR Club of IIM Raipur added one more flag in its fleet of events when it conducted Nukkad Natak - The Street Show as a part of IIM Raipur’s annual Business and Cultural Fest ‘Equinox 5.0’. Three months down the line when the planning for the event started, a layout for the event was laid. The motivation for such an activity was to deliver a Social Message; though none of us imagined it’ll get such a huge and warm response from the audience.

The trend of Road Shows is surely on a decline in our country, but then, the Social Values in our countrymen has also not been on any significant incline. The thought was hence to address both the issues and the best possible way was to come out with Social Plays that would convey a worthy message to the society at large. All of it started with a team of doctors from AIIMS Raipur who wonderfully acted and brought out the all-important issue of Women Empowerment. Certain critical issues pertaining to dowry, ill-treatment and many others were depicted in a very soothing way. The group then moved to cover the act of corruption and bureaucracy and showed how the ‘Sifarshi Lals – people favored by top officials’ are ruining the state of the country.

Then we had a team of students from Navodaya Vidhayalaya and the young brigades made a remarkable entry offering traditional prayer to the God Almighty. The students thereafter, very cleverly yet very humbly, reiterated how we, the citizens of the largest Democracy, ourselves are responsible for our pathetic situations. We’re the ones who elect the government without even giving a proper check on their backgrounds. We’re the ones who bear all the pain and the agony, yet never come up and stand for our rights. It’s because of our laid back attitude that canny politicians take us for granted and do no good for the society.

The next was the most terrific performance of the evening. And the command was in the hands of Engineers from NIT Raipur. With impeccable combination of themed attire, painted face and vigorous eyes, the group stunned everyone in the crowd with their thrilling energy and to-the-point communication. They started by imitating the most cruel some and inhumane act of ‘Rape’. This brought forth the trauma, the agony and the pain the victim has to go through while the culprit still roams free in the lanes and aisles of the town. This is the state of the nation where Judicial System is slow as a snail and where the laws are equivocal. The act proceeded and the group touched the issue of pollution and imprudent use of resources. The audience was left searching for answers when the group questioned them if they utilized the resources with them judiciously!! The act concluded on a real positive note when the performers enacted how it’s the Good that always win over the Evil. They showcased a situation wherein people came together as a wise bunch and penalize the wrong doers. The roar of claps surrounded all when they had ‘God’ come in his usual Avatar and do justice in his unique and candid way.

The square for now was all occupied and the travelers peeped in from the grills to watch the string of Acts one after the other. The participants as well as the organizers just preyed and hoped that each person from the mob takes something good out of the ‘Plays’. The acts may have concluded but our initiative of ‘Changing the lives of people for a better tomorrow’ is still on and will continue till the time we get back ‘Ram Rajya’ in our country. The magnitude of intensity and enthusiasm that the participants and audience displayed remain the highlight of what turned out to be a Successful, Enjoyable and yet a Learning event.

Health Camp at Sejbahar

Narayana Health ( formerly Hrudalaya) NHMMI organized a health camp in Sejbahar village of Raiur on 19th March 2015.  Kartavya-the CSR club of IIM Raipur volunteered to make the initiative successful. The camp was for free health check-up and medical counseling for the residents of Sejbahar village. A team of doctors that comprised of a general physician, an orthopedist and a gynecologist visited the village and conducted the medical check-up.

The camp was organized at Anganbadi area of Sejbahar so that maximum people could come and gain benefits of formal medical counseling. To promote the event, students of IIM Raipur visited all the residences and spread awareness about the same among the villagers. They laid utmost emphasis for villagers to visit the camp and hence get proper medication for any health issues. Posters and banners were put up at various strategic locations across the village in order to gain maximum eyes. In the process, the students also conducted various sessions with the residents of village and addressed important issues related to health care. A vehicle was also used in the proceedings which made continuous announcement regarding the health camp via loud speakers. Covered with flexes, the automobile took various rounds of the village, stopped at various junctures and hence promoted the noble initiative among the audiences.

The camp witnessed a decent turnout of public. As desired, women along with elderly and children constituted the majority of the gathering. It was a big opportunity for the residents of the village and they availed it by turning in large numbers. As a matter of fact, the medical facilities in the village are not up to the standard and people are reluctant to visit the hospitals pertaining to financial constraints, lack of awareness and poor transport facilities.

Students Affair Chairperson at IIM Raipur, Dr. Ashish Garg personally visited the health camp and ensured smooth and hassle free proceeding. The members of Kartavya Club reached the venue early and arranged for all the required facilities before the esteemed doctors from NHMMI arrived. The two organizations worked cordially and impeccably to make the whole event a great success. More so, they magnificently exhibited how people from within the society can contribute their bit and hence bring a change in the life of others.
