IIM Raipur students visit AAKANSHA on Valentines Day

IIM Raipur volunteer for Child Rights Convention Week

with UNICEF

UNICEF in collaboration with SCERT organized comic strips workshop and signature campaign to spread the message of Child Rights. Child Rights Convention week was observed during 25th November 2013 to 1st December 2013 in and around Raipur. Around 25 volunteers from IIM Raipur participated in this event which The CSR club Kartavya initiated.
There were 65 students and 20 teachers who participated in comic strips workshop from different schools across the state. It was a three day workshop in which the participants were taught how to create comic strips based on their real life stories. It was very heart wrenching to see the ideas or the thoughts on which the children developed stories on, they were all social issues. The key issues were child marriage, dowry system, alcoholism among the men in society and lack of encouragement to girls for higher education and many more. The objective of this programme is to hone these skills into the children as well as to understand the get social issues out from the bright future citizens of India.

The Signature Campaign went for a week long where the volunteers travelled all over Raipur to spread the message of child rights. There is so much exploitation of children emotionally, physically, psychologically, socially and mentally. India has ratified Child Rights convention given by UN, but in reality they are not prevalent. There are people who aren’t aware of it and there are some who violate even knowing them. The four core principles of the Convention are non-discrimination; devotion to the best interests of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child. We went around many areas in Raipur spoke to the aam-junta, told them about child rights and asked them to practice in life. We made an appeal to them to spread this message to their family members, friends and create such an INDIA where no child is exploited. This was scheduled for a whole week in which the volunteers participated with the idea of contributing towards a noble cause.
