Students of IIM Raipur turn up in droves to donate blood

Kartavya organized a blood donation camp at their campus on 27th February, 2013 in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society. The students and staff of IIM Raipur as well as the neighboring GEC College participated wholeheartedly in the event, with more than 120 of them turning up to donate their blood.

Every year, our nation requires about 4 Crore units of blood, out of which only a meager 40 Lakh units of blood are available. The gift of blood is the gift of life. It is astounding to think that every two seconds someone needs blood and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. There is no substitute for human blood, it cannot be artificially manufactured. Hence it is extremely important that all of us donate our blood whenever we get the opportunity. The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. One day that someone may be a close relative, a friend, a loved one—or even you.

Dr. Baghel of the Indian Red Cross Society appreciated the spirit shown by the students and encouraged them to continue with the good work. A lot of girls participated in the event as well, and showed that they do not lag behind their male counterparts when it comes to blood donation. The students showed that they truly understand their responsibility towards society by not hesitating in volunteering for donation. They didn’t mind waiting in queue for their turn, and many of them encouraged their friends to participate as well. If every person in our country showed the same kind of spirit and determination to help others, we would never have any shortage of blood. Such initiatives display the good that a person can do when he is motivated to help society.
